Apr 16, 2016 · Colt built the King Cobra to compete with the 686/586. The Python is more of a custom gun with a lot of fine tuning and was not as durable as the 686/586. Also, back when Colt made Pythons and King Cobras the 686/586 was a 6-shot revolver as well. S&W came out with the 7-shot later. the new KC 6" .22 Target ,seems to have gained an extra vent in the rib as well, with four, even though the new Blued 6" Python did NOT gain the extra vent. That was probably a good thing for the 6"blued , judging from some of the opinions of the blued 4.25". anyway, it's odd to me that Colt made a change to rib vents to both of the ...What I can learn from research is that the Python was originally intended to be a 38 special target revolver.
