I'm pretty sure SoS lite works just fine, the main difference is that you can't choose the size of your "equipment". The earlier SE HDT-SMP files were full of problems, but Hydrogen seems to have a fairly stable issue for Skyrim 1.5.62, which is the set I have had working with CBP-C. Skyrim SE attempts to install VC at the beginning, but it may have messed thing. Either try to install it from VCRedist folder of your Skyrim SE installation folder, or download and install it directly.
