My problem was following : I couldn't get Skyrim SE to launch on full screen at 2560x1080 on my 3840x1600 monitor by modifying the SkyrimPrefs.ini . It would always force window mode. The solution : Skyrim prevents fullscreen mode if the resolution that is entered in SkyrimPrefs.ini is not supported by the system/screen.
