The very best decision ever made in the history of Ithaca guns was to copy the basic design of the Remington Model 17. Now, if Ithaca is really going to come out with a brand new gas operated semi automatic shotgun, there is only one gun to reproduce, and it sure ain't the late, unlamented Model 51. The action slide on the Ithaca Model 51 has been a real problem for owners. The used replacement slide I purchased is exactly what I needed - it reassembled perfectly and the gun functions correctly. I also purchased a new action spring which should assist in the slide's performance and longevity.
