Feb 7, 2004 · Escape transmission shudder. My problem, since is is apparently fixed now, was never caused by transmission fluid being cooked. Since new, this vehicle has done nothing but leasurly back-woods driving. $40Miles round trip to work, no stop and go, and the few trips we took with it were no more that 350 miles one way. The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the gears would shift hard and long. The failure occurred intermittently. The engine began to shake when I put it into gear with my foot on the brake. Transmission shop said it was the torque converter. Spent $5,000 to rebuild transmission. Still shakes. The engine idles high. When taken out of gear, after a few seconds, the idle drops to about 800 RPM.
